Program Outline

 

Pathfinder programs provide youth with barriers life and employment skills training in the following four programs:

1. Employment Beginnings Program (EBP) - Hospitality/Tourism/Customer service industry
2. Sheet Metal Program (SMP) - Sheet Metal Trades Training
3. Working Together (WT) - Pre-employment Skills through Community Service

Our programs range from 22 - 28 weeks and all programs except the WTA program have a work experience or job shadowing aspect to complete for graduation.

Our programs are ideal for youth whom are trying to transition from school to the work environment, high school drop out wanting to return to school, youth who have been out of the work force for a period of time or having difficulty finding and retaining a position.

All our program objectives are to help youth learn to do the following:

· Conflict Resolution
· Listen effectively
· Develop trust in others
· Empathize with others
· Give and receive feedback
· Ask questions to clarify and better understand a particular task
· Assertive Training
· Self-Discipline and Commitment
· Goal Setting

Programs Outlines

Employment Beginnings - Surrey (for multi-barrier youth ages 15 - 30)

Type of Program or Service:

A 22 week paid Hospitality & Tourism program that teaches youth skills in the following areas:

- Life Skills - Stress Management, Time Management, Communication, Self Confidence, etc.
- Employment Skills - Customer Service Skills, Attitude, Work Etiquette, Conflict Resolution, Resume Building, Job Searching Skills, 12 Weeks of Work Experience, etc.
- Certification Training - Serving It Right, Food Safe, Superhost, First Aid and WHMIS

Eligibility:

- Youth between 15 - 30 years of age
- Encountering employment barriers such as: single parent, aboriginal youth or visible minority, person with disabilities, recovering from addiction(s), lack of skills in one or all three areas listed above
- Not a current recipient of Employment Insurance (E.I)
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Currently not attending school

Sheet Metal & HVAC Skills Link 2007 (for multi-barrier youth ages 15 - 30) - Surrey, White Rock and North Delta

Type of Program or Service:

A 24 week paid Sheet Metal Training program that teaches youth skills in the following areas:

- Certification Training - First Aid Level 1, WHMIS and W.C.B Certificates
- 4 Weeks of Life & Employment Skills - Stress Management, Time Management, Communication, etc. Attitude, Work Etiquette, Resume Building, Job Searching Skills, etc
- 4 Weeks of Industry Training - Hands-on Sheet Metal training to learn all areas of sheet metal construction (these skills can be used to design, build, install and repair sheet metal products from furnaces & ventilating systems to all other sheet metal products used in the construction industry)
- 16 Weeks Work Experience - Paid hands-on work experience in the sheet metal industry.

Eligibility:

- Youth between 15 - 30 years of age
- Encountering employment barriers such as: single parent, aboriginal youth or visible minority, recovering from addiction(s), lack of skills in one or all three areas listed above
- Not a current recipient of Employment Insurance (E.I)
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Currently not attending school

Working Together - Surrey (for multi-barrier youth ages 15 - 30)

Type of Program or Service:

A 28 week paid Community Service Youth Skills program that teaches youth skills in the following areas:

- Life Skills - Stress Management, Healthy Lifestyles, Time Management, Personal Budgeting, Communication, Self Confidence, Racism, Bullying, etc.
- Employment Skills - Community Projects, Customer Service Skills, Attitude, Work Etiquette, Job Club, Resume Building, Job Searching Skills, 1 Week Job Shadowing, etc.
- Certification Training - First Aid, WHMIS, Superhost and Food Safe.

Eligibility:

- Youth between 15 - 30 years of age
- Encountering employment barriers such as: single parent, aboriginal youth or visible minority, person with disabilities, recovering from addiction(s), lack of skills in one or all three areas listed above

Working Together - Maple Ridge (for multi-barrier youth ages 15 - 30)

Type of Program or Service:

A 22 week paid Community Service Youth Skills program that teaches youth skills in the following areas:

- Life Skills - Stress Management, Healthy Lifestyles, Time Management, Personal Budgeting, Communication, Self Confidence, Racism, Bullying, etc
.- Employment Skills - Community Projects, Customer Service Skills, Attitude, Work Etiquette, Job Club, Resume Building, Job Searching Skills, 1 Week Job Shadowing, etc.
- Certification Training - First Aid, WHMIS, Superhost and Food Safe
